Ed’s practice focuses on civil litigation involving auto, farm and product injuries, insurance coverage questions, arbitration and mediation. Ed has tried numerous cases to verdict in most of the counties of northwest Wisconsin. Ed was born in Pierre, South Dakota and grew up in Ashland, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the University of Wisconsin Law School. Ed is a member of the Eau Claire County Bar Association and the State Bar of Wisconsin.
Ed was appointed by the Supreme Court of Wisconsin to the Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility (now Office of Lawyer Regulation) and served six years in that capacity. This office is an agency of the Wisconsin Supreme Court that receives grievances relating to lawyer misconduct, conducts investigations and prosecutes violations of lawyer ethics rules. During Governor James Doyle’s term as Governor of the State of Wisconsin, he was appointed to the Judicial Selection Committee serving from the years 2003 to 2011. This appointment was made in order to assist the governor in appointing new judges to vacancies that occurred in the State of Wisconsin when judges were unable to complete their term in office. In 2010, Governor James Doyle appointed Ed to the Board of Regents for the University of Wisconsin System for a seven year term. The board is responsible for establishing policies and rules for governing the system, planning to meet future state needs for collegiate education, setting admission standards and policies, reviewing and improving university budgets and establishing the regulatory framework within which the individual units are allowed to operate. In 2019, Ed was appointed to a second term of service on the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents by Governor Anthony Evers. In June of 2021, the Board of Regents elected Ed to the position of President of the Board of Regents for the University of Wisconsin System.
